Melanoma – survival rate?

I HAVE JUST BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH MELANOMA ON MY BACK – IT HAS NOT SPREAD BUT WILL HAVE TO BE CUT OUT – WHAT ARE MY CHANCES – ALL TESTS WERE NEGATIVE – X-RAY – CT SCAN OF BRAIN – CT SCAN OF BRAIN TO PELVIS AND LYMPH NODES UNDER ARMS AND IN GROIN AREA – ALSO ECG – THANKS

Melanoma in situ, as known as superficial melanoma, when treated correctly and promptly has a very high cure rate, approaching 95%. The problem is that imaging tools are not 100% accurate so there is still some risk. However it sounds like your melanoma was caught early. Make sure and ask for the pathology report and note whether or not they obtained large clean margins around and below the melanoma. If so, your chance for a complete cure is very good. If not you might need more surgery. good luck
