Pilot Survival Training

South Africa – airforce query?

OK I’ve applied for pilot and navigation training within the SA Airforce

here’s the deal, they prefer applicants to be single, and I’ve been in a relationship for almost 2,5 years with my gf who i want to marry and have kids with.

we live in Cape Town and as far as I know, the airforce offers 3 months survival training, then approximately 7months basic flight training in Pretoria.. This is an opportunity I don’t want to pass up, my gf’s one uncle was a pilot and he’s earned enough money to live comfortably for the rest of his life, he is retired now at the age of 40.

I would like to know if anybody has any useful information such as what remuneration you receive during training.. I know you must get accomodation and food all paid for, but is there anything else and how often I would be allowed to leave the base to spend time with my gf, and after training etc would my gf/fiance be able to stay with me in a home near the base…

Any info would help.. thanx

I’m sorry I can’t answer your question but maybe someone on the Yahoo South Africa Travel page can: http://answers.yahoo.com/dir/index;_ylt=AkEDjRPyrI9hfitEPgfaRU4jzKIX;_ylv=3?link=list&sid=396545481
I think our one regular is a pilot (or training to be one) and some others have been in the army so maybe they can help if you post your question there? Best of luck :-)
