I read a story by John Steinbeck last year and its main character was a young boy who lives in Spanish rural California that he had to go out at night to get his food or something and the mother had been shot in the dark by an unseen attacker. Little just gets more and more primitive in their methods of survival and human thing to do is pray. What is the name of this story? Where can I find?
