survival at sea story

Parksville, BC Vancouver Island Marine Life Tours, tide pools, sea lions, eagles

The strange landscape of sculpted sandstone along northwest of the Bay has a kind of beauty is a Martian and hot local marine life and wildlife in general. You can reach the rocky coast with a fairly fast short drive downhill. The top edge is fairly flat and easy to walk in both directions for several hundreds of meters at low tide, despite the lower slopes, which are blessed with more marine life, are covered with very slippery algae. Fortunately, for the less agile, yet there are many tide pools along the slope of files en. I see California Sea Lions swimming regularly, especially between September and May, but there is a pair that is maintained throughout the year. The harbor seals come to investigate walkers and transient orcas come to feed the sea lions and seals. Dolphins and porpoises into the bay of the herring, eagles and herons nest in colonies along the coast and mink and otter on the feast of marine life. When the herring roe, the water is alive with all kinds of seabirds. Up to 80 million years old sandstone rocks have a story to tell with fossils of shells embedded in their curves. Perhaps the most reliable stars of this show are the animals that live in tide pools and rocks. For an extra low tide around new or full moon, the diversity of life here is even more amazing to see. anemones, a few species of colorful starfish, various kinds of crabs, snails, tunicates, sea cucumbers, singing fish, they cling fish, shrimp, small green, shaped blennies eel snails and clams all have their part in the incredible dance of life. I've even found a baby octopus in a tidal pool there.

Be sure to take photos and anything else to be careful. Put all the rocks and the creatures back exactly where you found them. Life is hard on the edge and animals need the shade and protection of rocks, shells and seaweed to survive the heat and prevent drying out or being eaten by predators. crabs and others have a specific territory, while singing fish keep their eggs and hatchlings. Sea stars are damaged when the tear of the rocks. If you're into diving, the underworld have even more delights in giant Pacific octopus, wolf eel and kelp forests for fishing.

To reach the trailhead, take the Northwest Bay Road motorway exit 19A in the Tourist Information Centre and proceed to Wall Beach Road and turn left. Keep right as the road turns into Sea Haven Road near another beach access. Sea Haven If you continue to the end, there is some parking space there and the revenue outside of the track end of the road. You can follow the coast around the point to the right and sea lions in the records of the season and see the eagles perched in trees.
