SERE folks train the crews going into combat and debrief them if they’re captured or get stuck in a survival situation. They also provide planning staffs with expertise on the combat area so aircrews know what to expect. They don’t go out and rescue people. As for the beneies… some extra pay if you go out in the field and cool tan beret is all ya get.
