Survival Fishing
Why do coral spawn around the full moon? Is it a survival strategy?
I need to find out what the strategies of coral are that ensure survival of their offspring during reproduction….
Could one of these strategies be the timing of spawning? Is the correlation of spawning with the full moon because fish are less active or something? If not, what are these survival strategies????
Thanks so much in advance..
Having synchronised spawning will ensure that the maximum number of eggs get fertilised, which can later develop into new corals. This is a very valuable evolutionary trait.
Full moons at night typically coincude with high tides at night. This will ensure plenty of water above the spawning corals and stronger currents to take the spawn to new locations.
