survival lighters

help with this survival game?

i have to do this survival map sort of thing for school,and i need help
(uhmmm the assignment is surviving in norther Canada..me and some others have survived a small plane crash,pilot and co pilot are both killed..temp is 25 below zero,night temp is 40 below zero)
i have to list the items in order or importance for survival,and how/could be used
here are the items:
-a ball of steel wood
-a small ax
-a loaded .45-caliber pistol
-a can of crisco shortening
-newspapers(one per person)
-cigarettes lighter(no fluid)
-extra shirt and pants for each survivor
-20×20 ft piece of heavy duty canvas
-a sectional air map of plastic
-one quart of 100-proof whiskey
-a compass
-family size chocolate bar(one per person)

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP

I suspect that there is a little bit more of the scenario. For example, are you going to stay put or walk out? This would depend upon flight plan and whether or not the black box is working or a Mayday signal got sent. If the group decides to walk out, where would you walk? How far?

-a small ax ( always a useful thing to have around)
-extra shirt and pants for each survivor (warmth)
-ball of steel wool ( I don’t know what steel wood is. Steel wool can be used to start a fire even when it is wet.)
-20×20 ft piece of heavy duty canvas ( for cover)
-a can of crisco shortening (use for waterproofing or to help start a fire. I suppose it could be eaten, yum , yum. The container might be used later to melt snow for water)
-newspapers(one per person) Use for insulation or starting fire.
-cigarettes lighter(no fluid)( might be able to use the workings to strike a flame)
-family size chocolate bar(one per person) (This is not enough for nutrition, but could be helpful in short term for brief energy burst.)
-a sectional air map of plastic
-a loaded .45-caliber pistol ( possibly used for signaling or protection from wild animals, but its dangers outweigh its usefulness)
-one quart of 100-proof whiskey ( alcohol may come in handy for cleaning a wound, but the temptation to drink it makes it dangerous to have around, it will disorient the person and cause dehydration)
