Since 2009 is nearing the end, I'll write this article about the 10 new discoveries in treatment of cancer in 2009.

I have collected cancer Google News Research and National Cancer Institute. Here are some of the emerging results of cancer treatment that I found really benefits the world.

1. New Cancer Treatment without Surgery

On 27 January 2009, UT Health Science Center unveiled a new treatment promising that revolutionized the way to treat cancerous tumors in the lungs of patients. After mild sedation, a catheter is inserted into the throat of patients and the lungs around the tumor. Radiation is delivered from a small seed in the catheter tip, killing the tumor cells without killing normal lung tissue. Therefore, the patient can still lead a normal life after treatment. It only takes 3 to 4 minutes to undergo this treatment and the patient can leave hospital short time later without feeling sick.

2. Machine boots Cancer Treatment

On 12 June 2009, a new machine that can accelerate cancer treatment to cancer patients has been unveiled. This machine allows an extra 200 treatments for cancer radiation therapy that will be out every week. Generating high intensity beam of radiation to kill cancer cells effectively.

3. CD8 + memory stem cells to destroy large tumors

On 14 June 2009, researchers at the National Cancer Institute found that a subset of immune cells, called CD8 + T cells, memory stem cells were able to mediate strong anti-tumor immune response. These stem-like characteristics of CD8 + stem cells memory enable small numbers of T cells to stimulate the destruction of melanoma tumors of large size. The mother of CD8 + memory cells have increased the ability to renew, to proliferate, differentiate and to kill tumor cells effectively.

4. α-CBT – Compound inhibited nicotine receptors Cancer Treatment

On 15 June 2009, the compound α-CBT was found to inhibit the expression of nicotine receptors and increased apoptosis. As we all know, changes in genes that encode nicotine receptors may lead the urge to smoke and increase susceptibility to lung cancer. Exposure to nicotine, encourage the expression of nicotine receptors, which inhibits apoptosis. Therefore, this new cancer treatment by targeting nicotine receptors the use of α-CBT may prevent the development of lung cancer. The α-CBT does not affect non-cancerous cells.

5. microRNA – help identify and Treatment Cancer lung cancer

On 7 October 2009, scientists at the National Cancer Institute revealed that a small RNA molecule, known as microRNAs, can help to identify liver cancer and respond well to cancer treatment with a biological agent called interferon. Researchers indicator showed that miR-26 (micro RNA) in the state of tumors may be useful for determining prognosis for patients with hematocelular carcinoma (HCC) and inform the selection of patients who could benefit from treatment with interferon for preventing recurrence of the disease.

6. Suicide Gene – induce apoptosis in tumor cells

On 9 October 2009, a group of researchers from the National Cancer Institute have used suicide genes that cause a cell to kill themselves through apoptosis to treat cancer. This new technique uses the surviving gene promoter to induce expression of suicide genes cancer cells with minimal effect on normal cells. When the promoter of survivin mutant bax driven tumors injected into mice, induced gene for 60% of cancer cells in tumor tissue for apoptosis. This slowed tumor growth significantly.

7. Reduce radiation damage by blocking the expression of CD47

On 21 October 2009, researchers from the National Cancer Institute, once again demonstrated its contribution to the cancer research by developing a method that protects healthy tissues from the damaging effects of cancer radiotherapy. Previous research cancer showed that mice lacking CD47 are resistant to radiation damage. Therefore, the researchers injected a substance that suppresses the expression of CD47 on radiation. They have shown that this can protect normal cells from radiation damage.

8. Nicotine Patch and Nicotine lozenge works better to quit smoking

On 2 November 2009, researchers from the National Cancer Institute showed that the combination of nicotine patches and pills nicotine as long as the major benefit for smokers to quit effectively.

9. PDF – mushroom extract that shrink tumors effectively

On 1 December 2009, Dr. Brandon Louie and colleagues at the Department of Urology at New York Medical College showed that a combination of interferon alfa (Immunotherapy for bladder cancer) and PDF (mushroom extract) can reduce the growth of bladder cancer cell. On 2 December 2009, Elvira de Mejia, a professor of Food Science and Human Nutrition at the University of Illinois, said lunasin, soybean peptide can have important benefits that the fight against leukemia and blocking the inflammation that accompanies chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and stroke. Lunasin soy is a peptide often discarded in waste streams from processing plants soybeans.

In conclusion, the investigation of cancer in cancer treatment is still has a long way to go. The cancer research continue to be carried out to provide the greatest benefits to the world.
