Catastrophe Survival Tips for you, your family and your business Eve Abbott, the Organizer Extraordinaire

Whether a natural disaster like Hurricane Katrina or a natural disaster like the explosion of an industrial chemical into the wind, what you do now to protect yourself and your family can make the difference between life and death. After you survive, rebuilding your life and business quickly becomes critical.

Please do not for one moment believe that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will be able to reach you in time, unless you have already taken these steps to rescue yourself. Unfortunately, even after 10 days Rescue efforts began after Katrina, there are still people starving in New Orleans.

It can happen anywhere (here) and not upon whether it is when it will happen. Nobody can predict the future, but you can take steps now so that I know you have done everything possible to prepare.

Check such disasters survival tips for you and your family "http://www.organize.com that can be used to buy you and your family more time. The time is the second most important factor in surviving a catastrophe. Water is number one, so our first tip is:

1) Without water loses its ability to make clear decisions, within 24 hours. Thirst kills you faster than starvation. At work: Maintain a backpack at work with bottled water as much as you can carry. Moreover, as in the dried fruit, energy bars, drugs or vitamins daily and a small first aid kit. Keep a family emergency numbers on the list too. Home: Put at least enough water in sealed containers so that your family have one gallon per day for two weeks. I just bought cellophane cases of quarters the size of plastic water bottles and stacked them in the backyard picnic table. Even if some of it is compromised you still have other bottles intact. Exchange of water every six months – put a reminder on your calendar.

2) Create disaster kit in your property outside your house and garage (in a back corner of your yard, for example). It's as easy as getting a 55-gallon plastic bucket garbage clips to keep the lid closed. Or use a plastic / metal garden 'shed' in your yard.

3) Clean out your closets and bring in layered clothing and sturdy shoes for each family member. You need a complete change of dry clothes that can be hot enough to sleep while dressed.

4) Clean camping equipment are not using: this is the perfect place for it. Tents, tarps, ponchos, sleeping bags or blankets (wool will keep you warm even when wet), cooking utensils, lighters, utensils, can opener and a pot for boiling water.

5) Make a separate sealed food containers in it. Canned Goods as complete meals are ideal. Dried foods will use precious water to reconstitute. Instant coffee keeps the pain withdrawal headaches away. If you smoke, put a carton of cigarettes to prevent withdrawal sickness. Concentrate on meals (eg stew meat, spaghetti) and carbohydrate-rich foods like cereal bars and fruit for dry of energy.

6) If you consume a protein drink (or power bar) regularly, throw in a large bowl (or a package of 12 cans / bars) and enough liquid to mix. This is a good source of concentrate.

7) Include another plastic sealed container with all the basic medicines or vitamins that you and your family should have. Some doctors will give two prescriptions once if you ask. Clean your bathroom cabinets and make sure to pack first-aid resources such as ibuprofen, Tylenol, aspirin, bandages, ointment anti-bacterial, etc. You can get the spending effective emergency kits home to Costco.

8) Important: a battery radio for emergency broadcasts, ideally a CB radio or Nextel phone network type of your list with the names of family, medical information and key contacts, as well as local numbers emergency. Call your friends / family outside your state to make upgrade information. Local access phone is often turned off or destroyed during emergencies.

9) Maintain a disaster Mini Car Kit (s). Always have a blanket, food (eg energy bars) and water in sealed containers. You can purchase emergency kits quality cars at Costco, too.

Create backups of your personal and business computer systems. I use Norton Ghost to image copy my entire drive in an external hard drive and store it in the trunk of my car parked in my driveway. Probably not thinking about his business in the midst of a disaster, but when you survive have to rebuild your life and business as soon as possible.

It's more fun hassling back to create the work unit that is out of business. You can also make regular backups to remote sites in the network. Sallie guru recommend my backup 'A weekly ezine Goetsch backup reminder. Essential Safety Tips for visiting the FileSlinger (TM) Backup Blog (http://www.fileslinger.com/blog/)

"May you and yours be safe and well". But his family disaster kits this weekend anyway, right? Organizer can not avoid a catastrophe, but after surviving will help you and your family in fast recovery.
